2 Weeks ~ Week in Review

Two Weeks Old week in Review

So nice to start this week at home as a family of three!

Jake was discharged from the hospital Monday, November 26 at 8pm!

Brian and I really had our hopes up that when we went to the hospital for Jake's 6pm feeding that would be our last trip.  We had met with the doctor that afternoon, and he said Jake was doing well and his Jaundice level had gone down so he would be able to go home if he passed the Jaundice level test again that evening.  We fed Jake and were just holding him and telling him how we couldn't wait to get him home as we waited for the results.

One of the nurses came by and we asked if the test results were in yet and she told us they were.  We could tell right away that the results were not what we were hoping for.  She told us his level was up by just 1 point so she said she had put in a call to the doctor to see if we could still go home anyways.  We were so deflated, but prayed that whatever was best for Jake be done, but we really wanted to take him home!  We sat there about another hour and we were figuring we would be leaving our little guy again, but then the nurse came in with discharge papers and told us the three of us could go home as long as we took Jake to see the pediatrician the next day!  It was so exciting!  We got everything together very quickly and we headed home!

I did panic for a little while on the way home thinking oh my we are bringing this sweet baby home and I don't even know where all of his stuff is!  Since he came early, my sister had come over and organized everything for us but I had not even had a chance to figure out where everything was!  Brian reassured me that everything would be fine and we would do great together!

Brian, Jake, and I just sat on the couch together once we got home and just enjoyed being together!

That first night was a little tough with Jake not sleeping that great, but I don't think Brian or I cared one bit about not getting much sleep!  We were just so happy to be home!

We had not decided on a pediatrician yet, but the NICU nurses told us who they used so we figured that was a pretty good recommendation.  The next morning I called right away and we were able to get an appointment for that afternoon.  We managed to get out of the house with a bag for Jake and made it to the doctor's on time.  We were very pleased with the staff and doctor, and Jake did great being examined.  He weighed 5 pounds 10.5 ounces, and everything looked good.
My mom and Brian's mom and Alan came to visit that evening.

The next night we decided to try Jake sleeping in the nap nanny.  This worked a little better, but he was so little we had to cushion it with extra blankets so he would be comfortable.  We got a few more hours of sleep, so that was nice.  The next night we tried the rocker sleeper and that worked great so Jake has been sleeping in that since.

Jake has been a great baby!  He does not cry much at all.  He just fusses a little when he wants to eat, but then is great once he gets that and then quickly falls asleep after eating.  Brian and I could just sit and stare at him forever!  He is so sweet and we are so blessed!

Friday, we went back to the pediatrician for another check up.  Everything was good.  Jake weighed 5 pounds and 11 ounces and was 19.5 inches long!  Our growing boy!  Brian did tummy time with him, and Jake was not really a fan of it!

Saturday we enjoyed some visitors... Andrea and her two girls (Emily Grace and Avery Joy) came over.  Brian's dad and Debi came also for a few hours.

Avery Joy was more interested in hanging out with Uncle Brian than her cousin Jake!
Sunday ~ Brandon, Lindsay, and Kylie came to visit.  Kylie was very cute meeting her cousin.

Some of Brian's friends from high school, Kyle and Julie, stopped by Sunday as well.

My mom joined us Sunday night to spend a week with us.  She did this for my sisters when they had their babies as well.

Monday, Brian headed back to work.  I know he was sad to go and leave me and Jake.  It was very sweet when Brian got home from work, he could not wait to see his little man!  We gave Jake his first real bath that night.  He was not so sure about it!
