Brian and I had seen a Nightline special on the St. Maarten airport, and the crazy experience visitors get when they are there. We decided to check it out when we realized our cruise would be stopping here.
It did not disappoint!! It was so exciting every time you would get a glimpse of a plane's headlights in the sky. Everyone on the beach would scramble to get their cameras ready. The first couple of times, I did duck my head because the planes did seem so close! Then I just loved watching the reactions of other people and especially the kids when they would see the planes.
The planes taking off was crazy! Their jet engines are towards the beach so they blow the sand like crazy! There are danger warning signs everywhere to stay back! We saw some people lose some hats and other things when they blew into the water! One time, we saw several people get blown back and fall down the sand hill!
